Who is LWA

LWA – Living Without Abuse is a domestic abuse charity, established in 1977 and based in Loughborough, North Leicestershire. Formerly known as Loughborough Women’s Aid, we provide support to men and women experiencing domestic abuse across Charnwood and North West Leicestershire.

- Everyone has the right to make their own choices and not be judged or directed.
- Differences between people should be valued and respected.
- Children of survivors experiencing domestic abuse may need special support.
- We have a responsibility to work with others to stop domestic abuse.
- Domestic abuse is a crime.
Our Commitment
- Supporting anyone experiencing or fearing violence or abuse at home.
- Working to meet the needs of everyone regardless of their circumstances.
- Providing on-going Outreach Support to women and men who experience domestic abuse.
- Working to meet the needs of resident children.
- Working in partnership with other agencies to ensure clients receive sensitive and appropriate services.
- Working with others to stop abuse at home.
- Enabling those who have been affected by domestic abuse to determine their own lives.
- Helping survivors resettle into a new community.
What We Do
LWA provides free confidential support for people, with or without children, suffering domestic abuse.
We provide the following services:
- Outreach Support, including -
- Listening support.
- Emotional support.
- Advice on personal safety.
- Assistance with legal and housing options.
- Help with benefit claims and budgeting.
- Accompanying support for meetings at solicitors etc.
- Resettlement support; help with setting up and staying in a new home.
- Arranging refuge accommodation (or other safe options).
- Support / self-help groups.
- Helpline – talk anonymously to a trained worker.
- Education and training opportunities.
- Assistance with home security, including the Sanctuary Scheme.
- LENS – taking and storing photographic evidence of injuries for future use.
- Training for other groups/agencies on domestic abuse and related issues.
We are also committed to raising awareness of domestic abuse, working towards its prevention and eradication, and assisting those affected by this crime to determine their own lives.
