The LWA Dragon Boat Festival in Barrow upon Soar -SUNDAY 8th SEPTEMBER 2013

Our charity dragon boat festival first started in 2009, every year has proved sucessful with teams entering from accross the County.  All profits from this event go to Leicestershire charity - LWA Living Without Abuse.

Throughout the day, the LWA Dragon Boat Race sees teams compete in a series of timed races all chasing that winning trophy.  We use the services of: Dragon Boat Events - the home of UK dragon boating. they are the Uk's leading provider of charity dragon boat festivals.  They will come along on race day and provide all of the equipment needed to hold this event, all of the staff are fully safety trained and will ensure our days event is well organised, safe and enjoyable.  www.dragonboatevents.com

How Did Dragon Boat Racing Begin?

The dragon of Asia has traditionally been a symbol of water. It is said to rule the rivers and seas and dominate the clouds and rain.
Dragon Boat Racing has ancient Chinese origins and its history has been traced back more than 2000 years. Traditionally Dragon Boat racing has taken place on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. Racing was held to avert misfortune and encourage the rains needed for prosperity - and the object of their worship was the dragon.

Today Dragon Boat racing involves teams of paddlers in a dragon boat with a drummer and helm, paddling frantically to beat the other teams along a course.
